Comic Book Bears Podcast

Killowog really has nothing to do with this episode - it will become clear when you listen in! On this latest Comic Book Bears Podcast episode the CBBears couldn't not talk about what is going on in the USA and around the world so the show starts off with Bryan, Bill, Caleb and Steve sounding off on protesting for police reform, voting and contending with COVID-19. Additionally, comic stores reopening and DC's successful Young Adult OGNs end up on the discussion table. After that we each pick our favorite reads of the week with Black (Black Mask Press), Chew and Mind MGMT (both from Image) and the upcoming Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio graphic novel (Abrams Comicarts) each getting their time in the spotlight. And as always we round the episode out with the Woofs of the Week!

The latest "Quarantina" episode of the Comic Book Bears Podcast finds the CBBoys talking about four books that are currently available for free on ComiXology. The virtual spinner rack for this episode include the first issues of Huck (Image), Vagrant Queen (Scout), The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion (Dark Horse) and The Seeds (Berger Books/Dark Horse). Apart from that there is some talk of comic shops re-opening, a lengthy MST3K/Rifftrax tangent and some tea being spilled.

This time on the Comic Book Bears Podcast, there is a whole lotta comic related news talk and we still get in some new and new-to-us books! So hit download or play and hear us talk about Ruby Rose's departure from Batwoman, HBO Max's release of the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League, Youth from ComiXology Originals, Trish Trash: Rollergirl of Mars from Papercutz and much much more.

Unfortunately as we are getting used to both video and audio, there are some issues with this episode. From a technical standpoint, Caleb is really low in the mix. From a performance standpoint, Bill stammers and "um ahh"'s a lot more than usual. Still we thought there was good discussion to be had here.

The CBBears are very happy to welcome to the show for the first time Greg Smith! Greg has impeccable geek cred as the writer of Junior Braves of the Apocalypse from ONI Press, the owner of the Retro Emporium shop in Kent, Washington and a big time podcast (Narrative Gunslingers, Nerds From The Crypts, The Last Podcast) veteran! Greg joins us to talk about Heroes Need Masks, an upcoming comic anthology that will benefit GetUsPPE, a grassroots coalition of volunteers mobilized to address the PPE shortage and get healthcare heroes the protection they need. Greg then joins Bill, Bryan, Caleb and Steve to discuss what they are currently reading and grooving on!

As soon as we have a link for the Heroes Needs Masks campaign we will post it for you! And a big thanks to John Horsley of the Spoilerverse podcast network for connecting us with Greg!

We hope you tuned in to our last two video episodes! We are playing catch-up and are now releasing the first of the two episodes in audio form! Listen in as Bryan, Caleb, Bill and Steve provide a re-introduction of themselves and talk about books that they think people who are unaccustomed to comic books might benefit from as their first reads! AND a familiar voice from our show's past makes a surprise appearance!!

Please know that we encountered some audio issues when recorded - this is new terrain for us - and there are parts where the audio gets choppy. (Again, we did our best in the edit!)

The Comic Book Bears are back with our weekly social distancing episode. The books that Bill, Bryan, Steve and Caleb discuss this time around include Dry County (Image), Al-Qaeda's Super Secret Weapon (Northwest Press), Plunge (DC/Hill House) and a return visit to The Fifth Beatle (Dark Horse.)

(Please also note that this episode is not up to our usual audio quality: we did our best to fix things in the editing but we made a commitment to weekly episodes while staying at home and we are sticking to it!)

As more and more of the world comes under stay-in-place or other similar orders, the Comic Book Bears are back with you with a new episode! Bryan Pittard returns to the show as does our special guest and good friend Caleb Alexander-McKinzie for this occasion. Listen in as Bryan, Caleb, Bill and Steve discuss what they have been doing since the current work-from-era began. They (eventually) get around to talking about comics. Selections include books from the Big Two (Justice League, Cable) and the world of independent creators (A Letter to Jo, Kid Gloves.)

We hope you are all hanging in there through these difficult times. (And if you just came to escape it all, you can fast forward to the 20:00 mark when the funnybook chatter begins!)
